Short Stories

Write a story between 120-180 words inspired, which doesn't mean that you need to describe them exactly as they are, in one of these animations or any other that you might like.

You can choose to start of finish the story with one of these lines:

I had never imagined something like this.
It had been the most incredible day of my life.

I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing.

Confusing Verbs Raise - Rise and Lay - Lie

Hello students!

I'm leaving you two videos which I found really useful, and perhaps in this individual way you can learn better.

The first video is about the confusion between Raise and Rise (only the confusing definitions, remember Raise also means to take care of children):

And the second video is not so entertaining as the first one... but it's still a very good teacher. She's going to explain you the difference between Lie and Lay (only the confusing definitions):

Hope you find it useful!

Hello Candidates!

Now you are going to see 2 pictures of animals that can fly. Compare these pictures and say what are the advantages of flying.

Don't forget to include:
  • Useful phrases.
  • Comparatives and superlatives.
  • Your answer to the question.

I'm attaching an image with some phrases again.

Phrasal Verbs: Bring.

  • Phrasal verbs are verbs followed by one or two prepositions
  • They don't mean exactly what the verb means.
  • They are used in informal language.
Some tips to remember phrasal verbs:

1- Download lists from the internet.
Complete List in EGO4U
ESL-LOUNGE has a list also.
2- Go to the coursebook and make lists of your own according to what appears and the examples that you have there.
3- Buy a "Phrasal Verbs" dictionary.
Have you ever done any of this things?

Let's Practice Phrasals with Bring!

Hello students! This is the first voicethread I'm uploading so you can comment on the pictures using you microphone.  Please click here.(enter the FCE folder)

"Examiner:  here are your two photographs. They show people playing different kinds of music. I'd like you to compare these photographs and say who would prefer each of this genres."

I'm also leaving you the photos here, and you can comment on the blog if you have any questions.

  Please remember:
COMPARE the pictures, don't talk about them separately.
Talk about 60 seconds only.

I'm leaving you also some helpful expressions and an example: http://www.autoenglish.org/oralexams/keyexpressions.pdf
